Today is the UN Spanish Language Day. This day was initiated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The date for the UN Spanish Language Day was chosen because it is also the Day of Hispanity, meaning the Spanish speaking world.
Spanish belongs to the four most spoken languages in the world. Additionally, Spanish is the official language of many international organizations and is considered to be a worldwide language. UN Spanish Language Day is a tribute to this Southern European language.
